This Center is a revenue generating business for, and the largest department at, EVMS.  Led a staff of 140+ providing over 60,000 training hours annually to over 8,000 learners.  Contributed to the efficient and effective delivery of medical training by planning new initiatives and executing sustainable programs. Directed groundwork for innovative and long-term operational strategies and processes that generate cost savings, create value for learners, and increase revenue. Pivoted business model to ensure profitability. Reduced staff workloads while advancing quality of courses; instrumental in the design and execution of over 700 courses and programs tailored to meet the unique needs of 85+ client universities, schools, and hospitals.

  • Managed over $10,000,000 in assets.

  • Secured individual multi-million-dollar contracts to support U.S. Navy, Marine, and Air Force clients.

  • Allocated an $80M annual budget for U.S. Navy synthetic Fleet training.

First leader in this role, managing a team of 12 research lab scientists, multiple research and support projects, and facility technical infrastructure (network and computing assets).  Aligned technical infrastructure goals to research activities, planned information technology for the future as well as maintenance of current systems. Maintained pace with technological processes, economic changes, and company needs by directing continual improvements of staff and procedures. Reviewed requests for additional services and upgrades. Assessed costs and benefits to the organization.  Developed new business opportunities, program and project plans, and proposals. 

  • Spearheaded a $10M project and enlisted 12 researchers to further simulation research for the Joint Forces Command. 
  • Oversaw the design of a new 65,000 square foot facility, led the creation of the infrastructure of which consisted of servers, multimedia, and network capabilities.

1885 – 2005

First Modeling & Simulation Officer in the Marine Corps.  Led Marines in combat and in live-fire training events; managed multiple projects, programs; developed modeling and simulation training capabilities that continue to impact Marine Corps readiness; 20 years leading diverse people in the successful accomplishment of challenging tasks.  Consistently ranked in the top 5% of my peers; hand chosen to lead critical projects and repair units damaged by poor leadership. Retired from the USMC as Director, Technology Division, Training and Education Command in Quantico, Virginia.

  • Grew USMC synthetic training programs from $70M to $400M in three years.
  • Led development of the Deployable Virtual Training Environment, a “virtual sandbox” designed for deployed Marine combat teams to practice critical decision making and procedural tasks when access to live systems was not feasible.
  • Led development of the Combine Arms Command and Control Training Upgrade System, a simulation-based training enabler that revolutionized Marine Corps Unit Training in preparation for very costly live fire and maneuver events.
  • Wrote and published the “Marine Corps Science and Technology ‘Long Poles in the Tent’,” a yearly report detailing critical training shortfalls and opportunities that guided institutional research funding.
